4.3 Assignment. Correlational, Experimental, and Longitudinal Research Designs Presentation

Getting Started

As you have been learning, there are three major research designs: correlational, experimental, and longitudinal. There are other designs, of course, but these are three of the most commonly employed in research. Each design has its advantages and disadvantages. Remember, too, that the research question should drive every component of a research proposal or study, including the research design.

Now that you have a sound understanding of the three research designs, you will use your knowledge to present what you understand about these types of research designs in a presentation, building on what you submitted in Workshop Two and incorporating feedback from your instructor. You may want to reorganize your slides in order to make your presentation flow nicely. It may not be enough to just add slides to the end of your existing presentation.

Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:

· Create a presentation that examines correlation, experimental, and longitudinal research designs.

Background Information

In this assignment, you will build on the presentation you created in Workshop Two on the correlational research design. Including your correlational design information, you will also examine and evaluate experimental and longitudinal research designs in the format of a narrated PowerPoint presentation. Ideally, you will also identify which design you plan to use for your capstone project if you have a fairly clear idea of your project. This will afford you the opportunity to do a deeper analysis of these research designs, as well as build on your professional narration skills.

Instructions

1. Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.

2. Integrate at least nine additional slides into your current PowerPoint presentation (for a total of 18). Be sure to include the following:

a. An overview and summary of the experimental and longitudinal designs

b. The pros and cons of each design:

i. Correlational

ii. Experimental

iii. Longitudinal

3. The introduction, conclusion, and reference slides (not included in the 18-slide count)

4. Format your work according to APA 7the edition standards and use best practices for presentations.
